What is Spiritual Wellbeing

Spiritual wellbeing is about nurturing our soul and providing purpose, direction, meaning and hope in our lives.   It can be our beliefs, faith, values, ethics or moral principles. Spiritual wellbeing includes the development of characteristics such as compassion, forgiveness, altruism, optimism, and happiness. It is also a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves, and may also include formal or informal spiritual practice, religion or faith. Spiritual wellbeing provides us with a Sense of purpose and meaning, gives us clear values to live by, and builds our Resilience.

Ways to improve Spiritual Wellbeing

  • Spend time alone to pray/reflect/meditate regularly, and before and after an important activity e.g. a competition or a life event.

  • Journal about your goals and spiritual values regularly

  • Spend time in nature

  • Volunteer or join groups or services that fulfil you spiritually
